Why does Norway have an oil wealth fund now worth $2 _Trillion and Alberta doesn't?
Could it be the same reason that the UK does not have an oil wealth fund the same size as Norway's even though Norway and UK share the _very _same NorthSea oil field?
Alberta and UK -- both led by "Conservatives" -- sold their oil rights for a pittance and used the proceeds to buy votes, while Norway negotiated steely-eyed royalties and funneled them into a fund now worth $340k per Norwegian citizen.
With Alberta:
- current value of Alberta's Heritage Trust: $32 billion.
- $35 Billion of Canadian taxpayer cash was spent to finish TMX -- entirely for Alberta's benefit (you're welcome).
- Alberta will be asking _Canadian taxpayers to help pay the many, many Billions needed to clean up its orphaned oil wells.
And we don't have a Norway sized wealth fund because conservative premiers from Getty to Smith have used the HTF as their own political piggy bank funding operations once their fiscal incompetence was revealed and for political capital projects that were boondoggles (MagCan anyone?).
1) we can't let this type of data suggest the Canadian/patriotic/Remain/federalist supporters can take their foot of the gas. The spectre of Brexit is too real AND in a poll of this magnitude I would argue there is a participant perspective bias against supporting the "bad" thing.
2) such results should not be taken by anyone as a rationale to set aside the real constitutional and operational grievances that Alberta (and Saskatchewan) have with the status quo. A first minister's conference on system review and reform is long overdue.
3) I believe that as reality sinks in these numbers will continue to slide towards their historical long-term values of between 5-7%.
The sooner this bubble gets burst and the selfish whinging is crushed the better off we will be to deal with real threats.
Is that also describing the sizing of the traitorous tRunts from Smith to Modry?
In a perfect world that will shrink to the size of a major haemorrhoid in the posterior of each of these grifters. Something to constantly remind them of their treasonous activity’s
Of course separatist support is falling. For both rural and urban audiences, hate has been the core motivator against Ottawa and against anyone who doesn’t support separatism. Reliance on hate is foolhardy. How will new leaders of the “Republic of Alberta” hate their way to attracting new doctors, teachers and investment money?
Separatism is a lost cause for Alberta. There will always be a few grumpy old men who will continue to bark at the population and hate Ottawa but they will disappear with attrition.
Albertans need to focus on UCP plans and changes. Think about what they have already done. Pay attention to the nine other questions on the referendum for October. Ms. Smith put those nine questions out for public consideration before the inclusion of a “separation” question. Remember to pay attention to what they (UCP) do; not only what they say.
The fact the separatists stole the personal private information of every voter in the province might contribute to the renewed opposition.
We have yet to fully realize what they may use it for to suit their agenda.
An actual question for Albertans:

Great graphic.

Good to know practicalities are at last being considered! But their madam is still at the curb..
the movement was always artificially inflated, and people are finally realising that.
